Chakra Colours

Each human body has seven chakras - energy locations which can be blocked, healed, and even seen by some. Chakras are a core belief of yoga, and have been incorporated into many different new age practices. The chakra system was first developed in India in the middle ages. The word "chakra" is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel. The major chakras are located along the spinal column of the body - starting at your perineum and going up to the top of your head at your crown. Each chakra is traditionally represented by a different colour of the rainbow - starting with red at the bottom up to violet on the crown. Each chakra location represents different emotions and feelings. Ideally all the chakras should be balanced - open and spinning Stones have been used for centuries as healing tools. Many were used as protection, to keep away negativity, or to keep one safe from harm. They were worn in jewellery, crowns, placed in bags and carried as amulets or taken internally as an elixir. So the practice of using stones to enhance our well being is nothing new. In these definitions, you'll see the word "chakra". Chakras are the energy centres of the body. They are vortexes that bring energy to and from the body. There are hundreds of chakras throughout the body but here we focus on the seven major ones. These are very brief descriptions.

 CHAKRAS

  1. At base of the spine. Colour is red. It's about physical vitality, grounding, fight-or-flight responses.

 2. In the pelvic region. Colour is orange. It's about sexuality and creativity.

 3. Around the naval area. Colour is yellow. It's about personal will, personal power. We store stress, anger and fear in this area. (Just look at how many antacids are in use). It also governs the digestive organs, liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, pancreas, spleen.

4. At the heart. Colour is green ,It's all about love. Unconditional love for self and others. A very important chakra to have open and balanced.

5. At the throat. Colour is sky blue. It's all about communication. Speaking your truths and true feelings.

 6. At the forehead. Colour is indigo blue. It's all about intuition. Inner knowledge. Inner truths.

7. At the top of the head,the crown, the colour is Purple or Violet, it's all about spirituality opening to universal energy and knowlege.
